YOU inspire us each and every day as you train, compete and play at Talisman Centre. 

Join us daily from October 8th to 14th for a celebration of YOU – our loyal members, as we say THANK YOU!

Throughout the week, each day will carry a theme that offers members a number of different GIVEAWAYS, PRIZES, and ACTIVITIES for both adults and children to enjoy! Activities will include an introduction to free member seminars, program demonstrations, workouts of the day, free coffee, giveaways, and much more. Additionally, there will be daily SWIPE & WIN CONTESTS with an overall Grand Prize valued at $1500 at the end of the week! See contest rules and regulations.

Monday, October 8th – Floatables Day

    Grab a coffee after your morning workout to get revved for whatever the rest of the day may bring. Available in the foyer of the activity level while quantities last.

  • Workout of the Day – LEGS : 7:30am, 12:30pm, 5:30pm, 8:30pm

    Join us at the Fitness Centre Desk and let our experts take you through a quick three level workout series (easy, medium, and hard) that focuses on legs. 

  • Floatables : 12:00pm – 4:00pm

    Make a splash and get a work out while walking, jumping, climbing and balancing your way across our floating maze on the water. And since it's Thank You Members Week, enjoy the floatables for four hours instead of our usual two. Must be able to swim 25 metres unassisted.


Tuesday, October 9th – Injury Prevention Day

  • Workout of the Day – CORE STABILITY : 7:30am, 12:30pm, 5:30pm, 8:30pm

    Join us at the Fitness Centre Desk and let our experts take you through a quick three level workout series (easy, medium, and hard) that focuses on core stability.

  • Office Yoga : 10:00am & 5:30pm

    Join our very own Nicola Thornhill as she shows you how to use yoga to improve your work performance and well-being with techniques such as SMART YOGA, POMODORA YOGA, PRANAYAMA, ASANA, MEDITATION and RELAXATION and some basics on Ayurveda. Learn how to customize these techniques and knowledge to suit individual needs and address work stress, body aches, mind fog, techniques to enhance and balance right and left brain function. 

    Space is limited so make sure to come at least 30 minutes prior to get a Group Fitness Access Card to secure your spot.

  • Protecting Your Shoulder from Injury – Member Seminar : 7:00pm

    Have you experienced shoulder pain while exercising, playing sports, or even simply reaching for the top shelf? Ever wonder why it happens and what you can do to fix it? Join our very own Personal Training expert Rachel Tran as she takes you through this injury prevention seminar. Find out the answers to these common questions by attending this seminar where we will go through basic concepts you can incorporate into your everyday workout. You will leave with a better understanding of proper shoulder mechanics and learn a number of exercises that can help to protect your shoulders from chronic injuries.

Wednesday, October 10th – Fitness & Nutrition Day

  • Nutrition Periodization for Endurance Athletes – Member Seminar : 6:00pm

    Our resident Nutritionist, Kelly Drager will discuss things to consider for your competition season. You've planned your training schedule for the upcoming season, you have the latest and greatest equipment and reviewed the psychological challenges you endured last season. Sometimes nutrition is an afterthought as a reactive approach to performance and health. Learn how to fit nutrition into your yearly training plan. Be proactive with every aspect of your training!

  • Improve Sport Performance through Strength & Conditioning Training – Member Seminar : 6:30pm

    Are you an avid runner or swimmer who can't seem to break through a personal best? Loreen Pesto will take you through a seminar that will explore the foundational physiological benefits that adding strength and conditioning training can have to an individual's sport performance. Using running and swimming as examples, attendees will learn how to incorporate strength training into their programs, suggested exercises for each sport, and pitfalls to avoid.

  • Choosing the Right Endurance Coach – Member Seminar : 7:15pm

    Triathlon, Marathon, Enduro Mountain Biking, Adventure Racing: Whether you are looking for a coach, already employ one or are going it on your own; you should not miss this talk by one of Calgary's leading multisport coaches. Jack VanDyk will highlight why setting the right criteria and expectations is vital to building a relationship centered around balance and communication. Jack's expertise lies in a scientific approach to coaching that focuses on purpose based workouts to maximize your time training for endurance events while balancing life's demands.

  • Training in Motion Demo : 9:15am

    Come try out this registered program for FREE and push yourself to your limits! Training in Motion is a fun & energetic fitness program designed to develop your strength, coordination & agility through various training methods and non-traditional games. The professional, certified instructor will maximize your experience by utilizing a variety of fitness equipment creatively in each class.

    Program Description: It's all in the name! Come and join the fun in a class that will have you in perpetual motion. This class is all about functional fitness. You'll use the core muscles to improve posture, improve how you move and feel, and help prevent injuries. TIM combines cardiovascular activities with strength exercises that mimic how our bodies move while performing daily activities at home, work or play. TIM is for people of all fitness levels and abilities, whether you're new to fitness, looking for something different or a seasoned athlete. Workouts are fun and creative. You'll have access to a wide variety of activities and equipment to keep your energy level high while the time flies.

  • Ducklings & Dinos Swim Lesson Demo : 11:30am & 1:00pm

    Members bring your little ones and try out this FREE half hour demo! Ages 6 months to 2 years old. Maximum 20 participants per class. First come, first served.

    Program Description: Come play and learn with your 6 month – 3 year old! Babies and toddlers can explore the water through activities, songs and games while also having the comfort of their care givers by their side. Lessons include water safety, comfort and play in the water, and an introduction of a few basic swimming skills.

  • SEARS I Can Swim Preschool Swim Lesson Demo : 12:00pm & 1:30pm

    Members bring your little ones to try out this FREE half hour demo! Ages 3 to5 years old. Maximum 10 participants per class. First come, first served.

    Program Description: A progressive, skill based, learn to swim program that teaches 51 water skills and focuses on entries and exits, submersion and breath control, floating, gliding and treading water. Building upon these initial skills, swimmers will begin to work on skills needed for butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

  • Group Fitness Noon Hour Blender : 12:05pm

    Curious to see what Group Fitness is all about? Check out this one-hour of fitness showcasing six of our most popular classes. You will get an opportunity to try a variety of classes including RIPPED!, Group Power, Boot Camp, Kickboxing, Maximum Step and Zumba.

  • Aquatics for Life – Adult Swim Lesson Demo : 12:30pm & 2:00pm

    Members come and try out this FREE half hour demo! Maximum 12 participants per class. First come, first served.

    Program Description: Adult Swim Lessons is a progressive, skill based, learn to swim and fitness program that teaches swimming and fitness skills which are centered around butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, water safety, entries and turns.


Saturday, October 13th – Bring a Friend Day


  • Bring a Friend : All Day

    Members are invited to bring a friend for FREE to join them in a workout – try out a Group Fitness class or shoot some hoops. Just visit our Customer Service Desk to check in.

  • Knapsack Giveaway : All Day

    Join three of our amazing instructors for a Zumba Party! Are you ready to party yourself into shape? That's exactly what the Zumba program is all about. It's an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness party that's moving millions of people toward joy and health. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high energy Latin and international beats. Before you know it, you are getting fit and your energy levels will be soaring!

  • Yoga Foundations – Member Workshop Series #1 : 2:30pm

    The first of a series of 4 workshops, Yoga Foundations will provide members the opportunity to learn and experience the building blocks of a safe, healthy, strong and nurturing yoga practice. Each week will focus on a specific them of yoga postures and will explore alignment principles, adjustments and breath work to allow students to grow and feel supported in each area. The entire four weeks will focus on standing posture, forward bends, back bends and twists.

Talisman Centre Thank You Member Swipe and Win Contest ("Swipe & Win Contest") Rules and Regulations

How to Enter:

1. No purchase necessary in order to participate in the Swipe & Win Contest.

2. Swipe & Win Contest starts at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Standard Time ("PT") on October 8, 2012 and closes at 11:59 p.m. PT on October 14, 2012 (the "Contest Period").

3. Swipe & Win Contest Rules and Regulations and more about entering the contest can be found at www.talismancentre.com.

4. Visiting Talisman Centre and swiping your annual membership card for entry will be considered "entries" and must be received within the Contest Period to be eligible. The determinant of the time for the purposes of a valid entry in this Contest will be swiping your annual membership card upon entry to Talisman Centre. The Contest Sponsors will not be responsible for an entrant's inability to swipe your annual membership during the Contest Period or for entries that are lost, misdirected, or delayed.

5. By swiping your annual membership card for entry to Talisman Centre, one is submitting a Contest Entry. Entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and regulations and all decisions of the Contest Sponsors.

Who Can Enter:

6. The Contest is open to all residents of Canada who currently reside in Calgary, Alberta (except employees of the Contest Sponsors, and advertising and promotional agencies, and all family members of such persons and persons with whom these employees are domiciled) and swipes their annual membership card for entry to Talisman Centre. The Contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal laws and is void where prohibited.

Prizing:

7. There is one (1) Grand Prize valued at $1500.

8. All prizes must be accepted as awarded, may not be sold, exchanged, transferred or refunded and are not convertible to cash. The Contest Sponsors reserve their right to substitute a prize or prize component with one of equal or greater value.

Contest Draw:

9. One (1) entrant will be selected (the "Grand Prize Selected Entrant") through a random draw to be held in Calgary, Alberta on October 16th, 2012 from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period.

10. Within five (5) business days following any draw, the Selected Entrant will be contacted via email or phone call and given a prize notification ("Prize Notification").

11. If the Selected Entrant does not respond to the Prize Notification within five (5) business days thereof or does not comply with these official rules and regulations, the prize will be automatically forfeited and another entrant will be selected by random draw.

12. Return of any Prize Notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and an alternate entrant may be selected by random draw.

13. The odds of being drawn as a Selected Entrant depend upon the number of eligible entries received.

How to Win:

14. To be declared a winner and recipient of a prize (a "Winner"), the Selected Entrant must first (a) correctly answer, unaided, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question to be administered by telephone or e-mail at a prearranged mutually convenient time, (b) sign a statement confirming compliance with the official rules and regulations and acceptance of the prize as awarded, (c) By entering the Swipe & Win Contest, the Winner authorizes the Contest Sponsors to broadcast, publish and disseminate his/her name, photograph, likeness, sobriquet and voice, in connection with any further publicity carried out in connection with the Swipe & Win Contest, at no additional compensation to the Winner beyond the awarding of the prize.

15. The Selected Entrant may also be required to submit valid proof of identity. If the Selected Entrant is unable to provide valid proof of identity he or she may, at the sole discretion of the Contest Sponsors, be disqualified.

Disclaimer and Liability Exclusion:

16. The Contest Sponsors are not responsible for late, lost, incomplete, illegible or misdirected entries during the Swipe & Win Contest; for any technical malfunction or other problems relating to the telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment or software, failed network connections, failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions, online failures or communication failures other circumstances affecting, disrupting or corrupting the Swipe & Win Contest in any manner, including without limitation, receipt of entries, entrants' ability to participate in the Swipe & Win Contest, prize notification or entrant response to the notification, for any reason including, but not limited to, technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, or any combination of the foregoing. Further, the Contest Sponsors are not responsible for any damage to entrant's or third party's computer occasioned by participation in the Swipe & Win Contest or by downloading any information necessary to participate in the Swipe & Win Contest.

17. The Contest Sponsors reserve their right to cancel, terminate, modify, amend or extend the Swipe & Win Contest or modify the official rules and regulations at any time without notice and shall have no liability to anyone, including entrants, for the cancellation or termination of the Swipe & Win Contest.

18. The Contest Sponsors shall take all reasonable steps to attempt to deliver the prize to the Winner within 30 days of the satisfaction of the requirements by the Winner. Should the Contest Sponsors be unable to deliver the prize to the Winner within 30 days due to factors outside of the control or power of the Contest Sponsors, the Contest Sponsors shall have no liability in contract or tort to any person, including the Winners, for such delayed delivery.

19. By entering the Swipe & Win Contest each entrant agrees that the Contest Sponsors shall not be liable for losses or injuries of any kind resulting from acceptance or possession or use of any prize awarded and entrants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless the Contest Sponsors, their respective parents, subsidiaries, successors, assigns, affiliates, licensors, agents, employees, representatives, officers, directors or shareholders, for all claims or damages arising out they will take no action against the Contest Sponsors, their respective parents, subsidiaries, successors, assigns, agents, affiliates, employees, representatives, officers, directors or shareholders for any loss or damage resulting from the Winners' participation in the Swipe & Win Contest or acceptance, possession or use of any prize.

20. The Contest Sponsors make no warranty, guarantee or representation of any kind concerning the prizes and disclaim any implied warranty.

General Conditions:

21. The Swipe & Win Contest is managed by the Contest Sponsors. All decisions of the Contest Sponsors are final and binding on all entrants without right of appeal.

22. Personal information provided by each 
entrant by entering the Swipe & Win Contest becomes the property of the Contest Sponsors. For more information please visit the Privacy & Security Policy found online at www.talismancentre.com.

23. As a condition of participating in the Swipe & Win Contest, each entrant agrees that any dispute or cause of action arising out of or connected with the Contest shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action proceeding, and exclusively before a court located in the province of Alberta and that the court shall apply the laws of the province of Alberta doctrines of conflict of law and that you agree to be subject to personal jurisdiction in the province of Alberta. Further, each entrant agrees to waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including legal costs or attorneys' fees, other than the entrant's out-of-pocket expenses associated with entering the Swipe & Win Contest.

24. In the event of a dispute, entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized account holder of the card submitted at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the person who is assigned the membership access card provided by Talisman Centre. If the identity of an entrant is disputed, the authorized account holder associated with the membership access card account at the time of entry will be deemed to be the entrant.

25. CAUTION: Any attempt to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to seek damages or other remedies from any such person(s) responsible for the attempt to the fullest extent permitted by law.
