Program Descriptions

Talisman Centre Staff will work with Teachers to create a program that best suits the needs of your students. The following descriptions are designed to give an outline of some of the activities Talisman Centre offers to School Groups. 

 


 

Aquatic Programs

Diving (Grades 5-12)
Ratio: 1:15

Get ready to take the plunge! Diving is great for improving flexibility, core strength, body awareness, coordination, and spatial orientation. Our certified instructors can teach simple progressions often using drills on deck before taking them to the boards. Students will enjoy learning diving technique and progressing from the deck to the 1 & 3 metre spring boards to the 3 & 5 metre platforms.

Pool Games (Grades 1-12)

This is an instructed, structured activity where participants will learn water play and safety in the water, life jackets can be used if needed. 

Synchronized Swimming (Grades 3-12)
Ratio 1:30 

Synchronized swimming is a unique sport that combines a variety of athletic disciplines including swimming, dance, and gymnastics, in the water! Swimmers will learn basic sculling skills and synchro positions. Try this Olympic sport with your students today!

Water Polo (Grades 5-12)

An exciting and different way to have fun and be active in the water! Our certified instructors can coach your swimmers through the skills used in water polo such as treading, swimming, passing and shooting the ball. After skills and drills we enjoy a game of water polo using the same playing field as National Level Athletes. Water belts are used for all abilities.

Sport Programs

Badminton (Grades 1-12)
Ratio 1:30 

Get moving in this high agility racquet sport! Learn the fundamentals of badminton including grip, hand-eye coordination, body positioning, overhead shots, clears, drops, lifts returns and net drops. Students may also participate in games to learn movement around the court or a Round Robin or King's Court tournament. Smaller racquet sizes are available for younger age groups.

Basketball (Grades 3-12)

Dribble, pass, shoot and defend in this favorite around the gym and playground! Our instructors will use fun games and drills to teach skill development including ball control, dribbling, passing, lay-ups, shooting, rebounding, defensive skills and court strategy.

Cooperative Games (Grades K-12)

Leadership and teamwork skills are important throughout life and developed in these games of cooperation and strategy. Groups of students will work together to play games and solve problems and in the process learn more about their peers.

Floor Hockey (Grades 4-6)

No ice, no problem! Come play floor hockey with your students. Instructors will use games and drills to teach the fundamentals of this sport, including passing, shooting and scoring.

Indoor Soccer (Grades K-12)

Learn the basics of this sport that can be played year round! Instructors will use games and drills to teach skill development including footwork, dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defensive skills.

Lacrosse (Grades 3-6)

This team sport is similar to that of basketball, with all five runners involved in the offense and the defense while using a lacrosse stick and ball. The combination of action and reaction makes this sport as much fun to play as it is to watch.

Track and Field (Grades K-12)

Our indoor running tracks and gyms at Talisman Centre provide for endless possibilities of fun track sport development! Programs may include running technique, relays, long distance running, sprints, hurdles, long jump, triple jump or a combination of these and more! Our instructors will develop a program that meets your needs for training for track season or a fun experience on our tracks.

Tri-Brick (Run & Cycle) (Grades 5-12)

Tri- Brick is the run and cycle portion of a Triathlon! 

Volleyball (Grades 3-12)

Pass, set and spike on our elite level sized courts! Program can focus on specific techniques such as passing, setting or serving or games that develop strategy and teamwork. Tournament-style play or modified games such as "Triple-ball" are also a possibility. This sport can be modified for earlier development groups using beach balls and badminton nets. Whatever your focus, volleyball is sure to be a "hit" with your school group!

Wellness Programs

Boot Camp / Circuit Training (Grades 5-12)

Get fit in this exciting and challenging workout including a variety of drills to develop coordination, agility and strength. This program can be done with group focus in Boot Camp style or as part of stations in a Circuit.

Power Cycle (Grades 7-12)

Students will get a full body workout through intervals, hills and racing on a stationary bike. Our instructors can develop a program that focuses on technique, speed or endurance. There is a maximum of 25 students due to the number of bikes in the studio. This class can also be taken with Lights. Note: Lights classes not recommmended for students with history of seizures.

Group Power® (Grades 10-12)

This 60 minute barbell program strengthens all the major muscle groups in an inspiring, motivating group environment with fantastic music and awesome instructors. With simple, athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls, Group Power® is a workout for senior high students of all abilities. Let's get hard core! Expert coaching and motivating music will guide you through functional and integrated exercises using your body weight, weight plates, a towel, and a platform. 

Kickboxing (Grades 5-12)

Get your heart rate pumping in this high energy hybrid Martial Art with its roots in Muay Thai and Karate! Certified Instructors will teach the basics of Kickboxing from proper stances and body positioning to jabs, cross punches, hooks and various kicks to defensive techniques. Instructors also emphasize the importance of safety and keeping learned elements for use in the appropriate environment and out of the hallways & schoolyards. Students are sure to get their work-out here!

Pure Adrenaline (Grades 9-12)

This Talisman Centre original school program uses a mixture of Synergy®, TRX, stationary bikes and running to help tone and build muscle. Try this great workout with your students today!

Weight Training (Grades 10-12)

Students will learn proper and safe weight training techniques for developing the strength of major muscle groups. Students will learn some of the benefits of weight training including increased muscle, tendon and ligament strength, bone density, flexibility, tone, metabolic rate, and postural support.

Yoga (Grades K-12)
Ratio 1:30 

Students will develop their mind and body as they learn various Yoga postures, movements and breathing techniques. Yoga has been shown to help improve concentration in school, support body awareness in other activities and sports and help individuals relax under the pressures facing today's youth. Our trained Instructors may incorporate music, games, challenges and partner work so that even those new or uncertain about Yoga will find it a rewarding experience.

Zumba® (Grades K-12)

Grades K-8 will enjoy Zumbatomic® classes, a rockin', high-energy fitness-party packed with specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all the music kids love, like hip-hop, reggaeton, cumbia and more. Grades 9-12 will enjoy the challenge of Zumba® classes, featuring exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, they're getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! Zumba® style classes help by increasing students' focus and self-confidence, boosting metabolism and enhancing coordination.

Dance Pl3Y® (Grades K-6)

This is an exciting new dance program at Talisman Centre, using popular music students will have lots of fun moving to the beat!
